Silicone rubber keypad Engineering Guide|Keypad illustration

   Mechanical Consideration
Typical key structure:
1)Key Travel ----------------------- 0.25 ~5.0mm.
2)Actuation Force ------------------ 20 ~ 350 grams
3)Operating Life -------------------- 1 million
   (typical), 10 millions (special)
4)Operating Temperature ---------- -30?/font>C ~
   150?/font>C
5)Storage Temperature ------------- -42?/font>C ~
   175?/font>C
6)Printing Range Slope ------------- +/- 0.5 mm

    Chemical resistance:
Silicone rubber keypads can safely be exposed to the following materials:
    Solvents Acids           5% Hydrochloric acid
    Acetone            5% Nitric acid
   Alcohol            5% Phosphoric acid
  Mineral spirits         10% Sulfuric acid

   Actuation force tolerances:

                        V               Precise (+/-)              General (+/-)

                    40-60                             15                                  20
                    75-100                            20                                 25
                    100-150                          25                                 30
                    150-200                          25                                 35
                    200-300                          35                                 40

Typical tolerance for actuation force is +/- 20 grams.
Optimum actuation force for best key performance is 50-150
Conductive rubber switches can be successfully designed and
manufactured with actuation force ranging from minimum of 10 grams
to a maximum of 400 grams.
Samwell has developed the Four Barrel Automatic Compression Molding
Machine that enable keypads to be manufactured utilizing far less manual
labor than in the past since 5-6 years ago - Four large canisters
automatically feed the raw silicone rubber directly into the mold.
This eliminates the costly pre-stripping, weighing and hand insertion of material.
Customers should consider this process for high volume multicolor keypads.

   Benefits of Multi-barrel Mold:

1)Up to four colors automatically injected into mold (less handling, no additional
      molding of insert keys)

2)More efficient out gassing which translates to better shielding of customer
      induced oil migration

3)Quicker molding cycles since introduction of material in the mold is not a manual
     operation

4)Less possibility of contamination due to dust, dirt, etc (especially important with
     translucent keypads)
